Job Description

Role Overview

This field-based IP network engineering role centres on keeping MSAN nodes within the Nairobi region highly available and reliable. Day to day, you will focus on power-system maintenance, fault response, and the physical implementation of ISDN and PSTN circuit changes, while also coordinating with internal teams and customers to ensure service continuity. Your work directly supports the company’s network uptime targets and helps protect revenue by minimising service disruptions and speeding up reconnections after billing-related disconnections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled and preventive power maintenance on assigned MSAN nodes, including monitoring power autonomy and providing monthly status recommendations to keep availability above KPI thresholds.
  • Diagnose and resolve power-related faults on MSAN and switch sites within agreed SLAs, coordinating restoration steps and keeping customers informed throughout the incident.
  • Manage feasibility checks, implementation, disconnection, and reconnection of ISDN and PSTN circuits at MSAN level, ensuring billing-related reconnections happen quickly after payment.
  • Complete customer setup documentation accurately and maintain records that support provisioning and assurance activities.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies, as well as engineering standards and legal requirements, to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Track network-related expenses, capture fuel usage within monthly limits, and submit power meter readings to finance by the required date each month.
  • Monitor personal performance against set targets and suggest practical improvements to boost efficiency and network quality.
  • Handle additional technical or administrative duties assigned by the line manager to support the broader technology team.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree or higher diploma in telecommunications, engineering, or a related technology field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, especially spreadsheets and reporting formats.
  • A valid Kenyan driving licence and willingness to travel to field sites across Nairobi.
  • Between three and five years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with at least one to two years of hands-on technical experience within a large national network environment.
  • Practical experience in installing and maintaining power equipment, including rectifiers, batteries, and related infrastructure.
  • Hands-on routing and switching configuration experience with multivendor routers and switches; relevant certification such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or equivalent IP networking qualification is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SIP and experience engaging with SIP providers to support voice services.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise both personal and team workloads, while remaining calm under pressure.
  • A self-motivated, team-oriented approach with a focus on continual improvement, analytical problem-solving, and risk management.
