Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits at the centre of battery production and service delivery in Kigali, where you will build, test, and repair the energy storage packs that keep electric mobility and backup power systems running reliably. Working under the Technical Operations Manager, you will move between the assembly bench, the test bay, and customer sites, turning raw cells and components into verified, safety-compliant battery systems. The quality of your soldering, your diagnostic judgement, and your discipline around high-voltage safety directly determine whether installed units perform as promised once they leave the workshop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build battery packs from the cell level up — placing and interconnecting cells, routing wiring harnesses, fitting connectors, and mounting BMS boards to published technical drawings and specifications.
  • Perform cell balancing, spot-welding or soldering of tabs and terminals, insulation application, and protective sealing so each module meets the required mechanical and electrical standard.
  • Run electrical characterisation tests on completed modules, measuring voltage, capacity, internal resistance, and charge/discharge behaviour with approved analysers and diagnostic equipment.
  • Record every test result, flag cells or components that fall outside tolerance, and quarantine non-conforming material before it reaches a finished unit.
  • Diagnose faults in battery packs, control circuits, wiring looms, and charging systems using multimeters and manufacturer diagnostic software, then trace intermittent problems back to their root cause.
  • Replace or repair defective cells, thermal sensors, connectors, and BMS modules, following lockout and high-voltage handling procedures at every step.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on installed battery units and provide on-site technical support when field issues are escalated.
  • Keep repair histories, component replacement records, and diagnostic reports current and legible, and escalate thermal or electrical hazards to supervisors without delay.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • At least three years of hands-on experience assembling battery packs, working on EV powertrains, power electronics, or similarly complex electrical systems.
  • Confident, practical use of multimeters, battery capacity analysers, diagnostic scanners, and specialised test rigs — not just theoretical familiarity.
  • Working knowledge of lithium-ion and lead-acid chemistries, series/parallel cell configurations, BMS architecture and communication, and the ability to read wiring diagrams accurately.
  • Analytical troubleshooting skills, particularly for intermittent electrical faults and control board error codes that do not reproduce easily.
  • Precision in execution: consistent solder joints, correct terminal torque, sound insulation, and no shortcuts on safety-critical detail.
  • Familiarity with hazardous material handling, high-voltage electrical safety, and correct battery storage practice, including consistent use of PPE during assembly, testing, and transport.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • A full-time, on-site role based in Kigali, with occasional travel to support installed battery systems in the field.
  • Direct reporting line to the Technical Operations Manager, with visibility across assembly, testing, and field service rather than a single narrow station.
  • Remuneration is negotiable and will be set in line with your experience and technical track record.
  • Exposure to advanced battery systems within the energy storage, electrical systems, and clean mobility sector.
  • Applications are especially welcome from candidates ready to commit to full-time, on-site work in Kigali, Rwanda.
