Job Description

Role Overview

The Montessori Teacher (PP1) leads a Pre-Primary 1 classroom where children learn through guided, hands-on Montessori experiences. Reporting to the Head Teacher, the teacher prepares the learning environment, presents materials, observes each child’s development, and keeps parents informed about progress. This role is central to helping young learners build independence, concentration, and a strong foundation before primary school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver Montessori lessons for Pre-Primary 1 learners that match their developmental stage and encourage independent exploration.
  • Introduce Montessori materials, demonstrate their correct use, and then allow children to practise, repeat, and progress at their own pace.
  • Arrange and maintain a calm, orderly, child-focused classroom where materials are accessible, complete, and inviting.
  • Observe learners regularly, record milestones and interests, and adapt activities to meet individual developmental needs.
  • Support positive behaviour, self-discipline, respect, and emotional growth in a peaceful classroom atmosphere.
  • Supervise children throughout the school day, including transitions, meals, outdoor time, hygiene routines, and rest periods.
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding, emergency response, and first-aid steps, and act quickly when a child is unwell or unsafe.
  • Prepare daily and weekly plans, keep attendance and progress records, update parents during conferences and routine communication, and join staff meetings and school events.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Montessori teaching qualification — diploma or certificate — from an accredited training institution.
  • At least 2–3 years of active teaching experience in a structured Montessori early-years classroom.
  • Practical understanding of Montessori philosophy, materials presentation, and early childhood development.
  • Training in first aid and child safeguarding would strengthen an application.
  • A calm, caring, and child-first teaching style, with patience and empathy.
  • Strong spoken and written communication for working with young learners, parents, and colleagues.
  • Good organisation for lesson planning, observation notes, assessment tracking, and record-keeping.
