Role Overview
This is a hands-on workshop and field role for someone who is equally comfortable building a battery pack from engineering drawings and chasing down an intermittent fault in a live installation. Working from our Kampala facility with occasional site deployments, you will be the person who assembles, tests, and keeps battery systems running for our clients — the technical link between the design drawings and a pack that performs reliably in the field. Getting the details right here matters: a misbalanced cell or a poorly sealed enclosure does not just fail a test, it undermines the safety and uptime of the whole installation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build battery packs and modules from engineering drawings, including cell placement, busbars, wiring harnesses, and BMS units.
- Carry out cell balancing, insulation, soldering, crimping, and enclosure sealing to specified tolerances.
- Run pre-deployment quality checks covering physical alignment, connection integrity, and overall build quality before a pack leaves the workshop.
- Test voltage, internal resistance, current output, and charge/discharge behaviour using multimeters, capacity testers, and diagnostic equipment.
- Record test readings, capacity curves, and inspection findings, and use that data to identify weak or failing cells and substandard components.
- Diagnose pack faults, BMS communication errors, and wiring short circuits, then repair or replace cells, fuses, balance leads, and control boards in line with technical SOPs.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on battery installations, charging racks, and customer energy storage systems.
- Support field work such as installation, remote troubleshooting, and warranty inspections, and apply PPE and electrical/chemical safety procedures whenever high-voltage work is involved.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 years of active hands-on experience in battery pack assembly, EV powertrains, electronics manufacturing, or high-voltage electrical environments.
- Practical working knowledge of multimeters, battery capacity testers, oscilloscopes, and BMS diagnostic software.
- Solid technical understanding of lithium-ion and lead-acid chemistries, BMS protocols, series/parallel wiring configurations, and thermal management.
- Demonstrated care and precision in cell balancing and electrical insulation work.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety standards, hazard mitigation practices, and battery storage regulations.
What We Offer / Why Join
- Full-time, on-site position based in Kampala with occasional field deployment.
- Negotiable remuneration based on experience.
- Direct reporting line to the Technical Supervisor, with exposure to both workshop assembly and live field service work across client power storage installations.
If you meet the requirements above, send us your updated CV with a clear account of your battery assembly and electrical troubleshooting experience.
