Job Description

Role Overview

This is a structured graduate placement that moves through vehicle servicing, diagnostics and bodyshop repair, giving a recent engineering graduate hands-on exposure to the full workshop cycle while contributing real work to the team's daily output. The trainee works alongside qualified technicians on inspections, maintenance, panel work and refinishing preparation, building the practical judgement that classroom study alone cannot provide. For the employer, the programme is a pipeline for developing technically capable, safety-conscious staff who can be trusted with customer vehicles from the outset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned training modules, coaching sessions and assessments on schedule, then apply the new technical knowledge to live jobs.
  • Carry out vehicle inspections and routine servicing — oil and filter changes, fluid checks, battery care, and pre-delivery or quality checks.
  • Work with qualified technicians to trace mechanical, electrical and electronic faults and to remove, repair or replace components.
  • Support bodyshop operations: damage assessment, panel straightening, dent removal, welding, sanding, filling, masking, surface preparation, and stripping or rebuilding body parts.
  • Prepare vehicles for painting and refinishing, and assist with accident repair and restoration under close supervision.
  • Keep tools, equipment and workstations clean and organised; handle customer vehicles and workshop materials carefully; help track spare parts and consumables so jobs are not delayed.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality rules — wear PPE, handle paints, chemicals, lubricants and equipment safely, and report hazards, incidents or defective equipment promptly.
  • Maintain accurate job cards, inspection reports, training records and progress updates, and interact with customers and colleagues in a professional, service-focused way.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, automotive technology or a related engineering discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent.
  • KCSE mean grade of B+ (Plus) or higher.
  • Recent graduate — must have graduated within the last two years.
  • Aged 24 years or below at the time of application.
  • Demonstrated interest in automotive service, diagnostics and bodyshop operations.
  • Industrial attachment, internship or practical exposure in an automotive workshop or bodyshop is an added advantage.
  • A valid driving licence is an added advantage.
