Role Overview
As Hatua's Communications Officer, you will be the voice and visual storyteller behind the organisation's fundraising and donor engagement efforts. Day to day, you will write, design, and publish content — student and graduate stories, newsletters, appeals, social posts, and annual report material — that turns the impact of our programmes into something supporters can see, feel, and respond to. Partnering closely with the Development Coordinator, your work directly fuels individual sponsorship campaigns, strengthens relationships with existing donors, and raises Hatua's profile with new audiences who care about youth development.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, interview, write, and edit feature stories about students, alumni, and programme outcomes for newsletters, appeals, the website, and donor updates.
- Produce and schedule social media content across Hatua's channels, keeping a consistent publishing rhythm and a tone that reflects our mission.
- Design visual assets — graphics, campaign collateral, report layouts, and social templates — that keep Hatua's brand recognisable and professional.
- Collaborate with the Development Coordinator on donor outreach materials, including individual sponsorship communications and campaign messaging.
- Contribute writing, editing, photography, and design support to the production of the annual report and other fundraising publications.
- Capture and organise photo and video content from programme activities, maintaining an accessible, well-tagged media library.
- Maintain consistency in messaging and visual identity across every channel and audience, from one-off social posts to formal donor documents.
- Track basic engagement and reach across channels and use those results to refine what content gets produced next.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Media Studies, or a comparable field.
- One to three years of relevant experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, digital media, or content creation.
- Demonstrated record of producing both written and visual content for social media, websites, newsletters, reports, or campaigns.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading ability, with a knack for persuasive storytelling rather than informational description alone.
- Working proficiency with graphic design tools (for example Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or similar) and comfort managing multiple social platforms.
- A portfolio of written and visual work that shows range and quality; candidates with strong portfolios and equivalent hands-on experience are welcome even where formal qualifications differ.
- Ability to manage several deadlines at once — campaign timelines, publication schedules, and ad hoc donor requests — without losing accuracy or tone.
- Background in the nonprofit or youth-development sector is an advantage.
