Job Description

Assistant Marketing Manager — FMCG

Location: Nairobi, Kenya | Employment type: Full-time, on-site | Monthly salary: Ksh 100,000

This role centres on brand growth, trade activation, and bringing new products to market across Kenya.

Role Overview

The Assistant Marketing Manager supports the marketing function for an FMCG business in Nairobi, taking ownership of brand campaigns, trade marketing activity, and product launch workstreams. Acting as a link between senior marketing leaders and the commercial sales team, the role turns brand plans into retail execution, shopper-facing promotions, and measurable market activity. It matters because it helps new variants reach consumers, keeps brand presentation consistent across every touchpoint, and gives sales teams the tools and insights needed to grow shelf presence and market share.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help shape and deliver annual marketing plans, brand messaging, and campaign schedules that align with commercial objectives.
  • Protect brand voice, visual identity, and messaging consistency across digital platforms, retail materials, and traditional media.
  • Coordinate creative agencies, designers, media partners, and activation vendors to deliver campaigns, then monitor performance and return on investment.
  • Contribute to pricing, packaging, and distribution decisions when new product lines or variants are being prepared for launch.
  • Manage launch timelines end to end, keeping production, supply chain, and field sales teams aligned around key milestones.
  • Commission and interpret consumer research on buying habits, preferences, and competitor responses to inform marketing decisions.
  • Partner with sales colleagues to design trade promotions, point-of-sale display materials, and in-store merchandising drives.
  • Run experiential activations, retail shopper initiatives, and field promotions, while tracking monthly brand KPIs, campaign reach, and conversion rates for management reports.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in marketing, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of active marketing experience in FMCG, with direct exposure to trade marketing, brand building, and campaign management.
  • Proven ability to coordinate product launches, carry out consumer research, and manage creative agency relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCG retail routes to market, trade promotion mechanics, and shopper behaviour.
  • Numerate and analytical, with the ability to assess campaign ROI, research metrics, and sales conversion figures.
  • Excellent project management, organisation, and attention to detail, plus a track record of collaborating across functions.
  • Clear communication skills for working with sales, supply chain, production, and external partners.
