Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the operational link between shipping lines, trucking companies, customs agents, and border authorities, ensuring goods move efficiently along the Northern Corridor from Mombasa into Uganda and onward to Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC. Your main focus is to orchestrate daily road transport movements, keep cargo on schedule, and resolve the many exceptions that arise when coordinating cross-border freight across multiple regulatory environments. This role matters because reliable transit operations directly affect client supply chains, revenue, and the company’s reputation for dependable corridor logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and sequence daily truck dispatches from Mombasa to Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC, matching available capacity to incoming cargo volumes and delivery deadlines.
  • Coordinate with transporters, customs agents, and internal operations teams to ensure trucks are loaded, cleared, and released without avoidable delays at the port and inland container depots.
  • Monitor road transit activities in real time, acting quickly on breakdowns, police stops, diversions, or border hold-ups to minimise idle time and protect delivery schedules.
  • Verify that all required transit documents, customs bonds, waybills, and cargo manifests are correct and compliant with regional customs procedures before movement begins.
  • Send accurate status updates to customers and internal stakeholders at key milestones, from port exit to border crossing to final delivery.
  • Maintain daily tracking logs and generate weekly transport performance summaries that highlight on-time performance, exceptions, and corrective actions.
  • Propose and support cost-reduction measures by improving truck turnaround, load consolidation, and route selection without compromising service levels.
  • Handle escalations promptly when shipments are at risk, coordinating with clearing agents and transport partners to keep disruption to a minimum.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A diploma in transport, logistics, or a clearing and forwarding qualification is required; a degree in supply chain management is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of hands-on experience in transport operations or transit logistics based in Mombasa, specifically managing cargo moving along the Mombasa–Uganda corridor.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the transit routes, border posts, and transit procedures used for cargo destined for Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC.
  • Solid understanding of East African Community customs regulations, containerised cargo transit requirements, and the documentation needed for bonded truck movements.
  • Practical experience using transport management systems and standard Microsoft Office tools to track shipments, record data, and produce operational reports.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple trucks, customers, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, especially when coordinating between drivers, customs offices, and client representatives under time pressure.
  • High attention to detail and critical thinking, with a proactive and results-driven attitude that works well both in a team and independently.
