Role Overview

This role is for a Strategic HR Generalist/Partner focused on driving organizational performance and compliance within Liquid Kenya (a subsidiary of Cassava Technologies). The successful candidate serves as a critical link between business strategy and people strategy, handling both high-level strategic functions and essential operational duties.

Key Responsibilities

HR as a Strategic Change Partner

  • Lead and support organizational change initiatives including restructures, onboarding, exits, and internal mobility.
  • Champion the rollout and adoption of new HR systems, policies, and digital platforms.
  • Facilitate clear, empathetic communication during transitions to minimize disruption and maintain engagement.

Culture & Leadership Enablement

  • Promote values-based leadership and inclusive workplace practices across teams.
  • Monitor team dynamics, morale, and engagement metrics to inform leadership interventions.
  • Support managers in embedding desired behaviours and cultural norms aligned with Cassava’s Values.

Policy Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure consistent and lawful application of HR policies across departments.
  • Manage grievances, disciplinary actions, and exits in full compliance with the Kenyan Employment Act.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support internal and external compliance reviews.

HR Strategy Execution

  • Translate business objectives into actionable HR priorities and execution plans.
  • Advise line managers on workforce planning, succession, and capability development.
  • Deliver monthly HR dashboards and insights to inform leadership decisions and track progress.

Payroll Administration

  • Prepare and validate monthly payroll inputs including reports, leave records, and statutory deductions.
  • Liaise with Finance to ensure timely salary disbursements and resolution of payroll-related queries.
  • Maintain confidential payroll records and support audits, reconciliations, and statutory reporting.

HR Analytics & Reporting

  • Collect, organize, and analyze HR data (e.g., headcount, attrition, leave trends) to support decision-making.
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports for internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Maintain data integrity across HRIS platforms and contribute to process optimization initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Partner with HR colleagues, Finance, and departmental leads to streamline workflows and improve service delivery.
  • Participate in HR projects and contribute to initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency.

Payroll Processing

  • Execute end-to-end payroll including inputs, statutory deductions, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of multiple HR/payroll systems (e.g., SAP, BambooHR, PaySpace).

HRIS & Data Integrity

  • Maintain clean, reliable data across HR systems and ensure consistency across platforms.

HR Analytics (Power BI/Tableau)

  • Build and interpret dashboards using Power BI or Tableau to track headcount, attrition, leave, and engagement trends.

Kenyan Labour Law

  • Apply the Employment Act in grievances, exits, contracts, and policy enforcement.

Performance Management

  • Design and manage appraisal cycles, PIPs, and coaching frameworks with clear linkage to productivity KPIs and workforce planning.

Learning & Development

  • Proven success in implementing at least three L&D strategies (e.g., peer-led learning, digital induction, performance-linked training).

Recruitment Operations

  • Manage interview coordination, onboarding documentation, and recruitment cycle tracking.

Compliance & Audits

  • Maintain audit-ready files and support internal/external reviews.

Excel & Reporting Tools

  • Use formulas, pivot tables, and templates for HR reporting.

Cross-Functional Liaison

  • Collaborate with Finance, Tech, and Admin teams on shared HR processes.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar HRBP role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Kenyan labour law and HR best practices.
  • Proven ability to work independently and drive initiatives across multiple HR workstreams.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills.

Membership

Membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
