Job Description
Role Overview
This position acts as a dedicated human resources advisor to specific departments within the hospital, translating operational needs into effective people strategies that directly support patient care excellence and workforce stability. Day-to-day tasks involve working closely with line managers to address employee relations, guide performance management, coordinate hiring and onboarding, and ensure full compliance with Kenyan labour law and hospital policies. The role matters because it helps build a motivated, accountable, and legally sound workforce that can meet the hospital’s five-year strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a reliable HR partner to assigned business units, turning business priorities into actionable people plans that advance service quality, patient outcomes, and long-term staffing sustainability.
- Lead workforce planning efforts including establishment reviews, succession pipelines, job design, and resourcing forecasts to ensure the right talent is available at the right time.
- Manage the full recruitment lifecycle—from sourcing and selection through onboarding, internal movement, and offboarding—while ensuring a fair, inclusive, and positive experience for all candidates and employees.
- Guide performance management processes including goal alignment, continuous feedback, coaching, performance improvement plans, appraisal moderation, and timely reporting on results.
- Advise managers and staff on employee relations issues such as grievances, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, workplace investigations, and interpretation of policies and labour laws.
- Support learning and development by identifying skill gaps, coordinating training sessions, tracking completion rates, and measuring the impact of development initiatives.
- Drive employee engagement, wellness, inclusion, and culture-building activities that boost morale, retention, accountability, and overall performance.
- Analyse HR data and produce regular reports on headcount, turnover, absenteeism, leave usage, recruitment metrics, training outcomes, and employee relations trends to inform decision-making.
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee records within the HRIS, including contracts, statutory documentation, professional licences, and compliance files.
- Oversee employee lifecycle processes such as leave management, attendance, probation, contract renewals, confirmations, transfers, and promotions in line with policy.
- Assist with organisational change by preparing communications, engaging stakeholders, planning transitions, and helping teams adapt to new structures or processes.
- Promote compliance with Kenyan labour laws, Collective Bargaining Agreements, professional regulations, data privacy rules, occupational health and safety requirements, and internal policies.
- Continuously review HR processes, service standards, and digital tools to improve efficiency, employee experience, reporting accuracy, and internal customer satisfaction.
- Supervise, coach, and develop junior HR staff, ensuring they uphold professionalism, confidentiality, and continuous learning.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Psychology, Organisational Development, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K) or equivalent professional HR certification.
- Active membership in good standing with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
- Minimum five years of progressive experience as an HR generalist or HR business partner, with at least two years in a supervisory or business-facing HR advisory capacity.
- Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, recruitment, performance management, HR reporting, learning and development coordination, and HR policy implementation.
- Hands-on experience with HR information systems, data dashboards, Microsoft Office, and digital collaboration tools.
- Strong understanding of current HR practices, employee experience, organisational development, talent management, and performance management.
- Sound knowledge of Kenyan labour laws, HR professional standards, Collective Bargaining Agreements, occupational safety and health requirements, and compliance obligations.
- Ability to interpret HR metrics, identify workforce trends, prepare insightful reports, and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent advisory, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills across clinical and non-clinical departments.
- High integrity, confidentiality, professionalism, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, creative thinking, planning, and execution abilities.
- Digital literacy in HR systems, spreadsheets, dashboards, and collaboration tools to improve service delivery.
- Change management capability and ability to support teams through organisational transformation.
