International Curriculum Teacher / Music Tutor

Role Overview

A school in Kiambu is recruiting full-time teaching staff to deliver an international curriculum across primary and secondary levels, with openings in humanities and languages (English, Literature, History, CRE, Kiswahili), Key Stage 1, French, and Music. Day to day, you will translate Cambridge/IGCSE frameworks into lessons that hold learners' attention, stretch their thinking, and build practical skills rather than rote recall. The position matters because these teachers carry both the academic progress of their classes and a large share of the school's co-curricular life, from subject clubs and assemblies to recitals, concerts, and talent showcases.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and teach interactive, age-appropriate lessons that map directly onto Cambridge/IGCSE guidelines for your subject and key stage, adjusting content, pace, and materials to suit learners of differing abilities and language backgrounds.
• Run continuous formative checks alongside formal summative assessments, then use the results to reshape upcoming lessons and identify learners who need extra support or extension.
• Keep accurate, up-to-date records covering grades, attendance, and behavioural observations, and draw on them when preparing reports or discussing a learner's progress.
• Meet with parents and school leadership during academic reviews, giving straight, constructive feedback on strengths, gaps, and next steps.
• Prepare candidates for internal and external examinations while still encouraging independent inquiry, questioning, and critical reasoning in everyday classwork.
• Protect and promote learner wellbeing by maintaining an inclusive, orderly classroom and applying active child safeguarding practices at all times.
• Contribute to the wider school programme — running subject clubs, supervising educational trips and assemblies, and helping organise talent development activities and performances.
• Coach students in discipline, communication, teamwork, and personal responsibility, modelling the standards you expect from them. Music tutors additionally prepare learners for recitals, concerts, and talent shows, teaching instrument technique and music theory in parallel.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Humanities & Languages (English, Literature, History, CRE, Kiswahili): Bachelor of Education or an equivalent teaching degree, plus at least 3 years of classroom teaching with demonstrated Cambridge/IGCSE experience at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
• Key Stage 1: Bachelor of Education or a comparable Early Years/Primary teaching qualification, with a minimum of 3 years teaching within Cambridge Key Stage 1 primary settings.
• French: Degree or diploma in French, French Education, or a closely related field; at least 3 years of teaching experience, ideally in a Cambridge or international school; high fluency in both spoken and written French.
• Music Tutor: Degree, diploma, or professional qualification in Music, Music Education, or a related discipline; a minimum of 3 years teaching music to young people; strong practical command of at least one instrument; solid grounding in music theory; and prior experience preparing students for recitals, concerts, and talent shows.
• Confident classroom management and the ability to differentiate instruction for mixed-ability, multilingual groups.
• Assessment literacy — comfortable designing tasks, marking consistently, and interpreting performance data to inform teaching.
• Working knowledge of child safeguarding expectations and a genuine commitment to learner welfare.
• Clear communication with students, colleagues, and parents, and a willingness to take part in the school's co-curricular calendar.

What We Offer / Why Join

• A monthly salary of KSh 30,000 – KSh 45,000, depending on the pathway and experience.
