Role Overview
This is a hands-on commercial leadership position for a distributor of surgical implants, medical devices, and rehabilitation products operating across Kenya. The person in this seat owns the numbers and the relationships behind them — opening new hospital and specialist accounts, driving revenue through the existing pipeline, and making sure surgeons are never left without technical backup in theatre. It matters because growth in this business is won through clinical credibility as much as sales skill, so the role carries responsibility for both the commercial plan and the operational reliability that keeps surgeons and procurement teams coming back.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and execute market expansion plans that win new hospital, clinic, and specialist accounts, while deepening penetration of existing ones.
- Track competitor activity, market shifts, and customer feedback across orthopaedic implants, splints, and rehabilitation lines, and translate what you find into concrete commercial moves.
- Set monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue targets, territory coverage plans, and field activity schedules, then manage the end-to-end pipeline and lead conversion against them.
- Cultivate senior relationships with consulting surgeons, hospital leadership, procurement managers, and clinical partners to secure supply agreements and long-term accounts.
- Drive product launches, supplier and agency partnerships, demonstrations, and marketing campaigns spanning digital outreach and in-person clinical engagement.
- Schedule and supervise Theatre Technicians so that trained technical support is present during surgical procedures, and coordinate with Procurement, Warehouse, and Finance to keep stock, surgery kits, and invoicing ready before each case.
- Lead regional debt collection efforts alongside Finance to reduce overdue receivables, approve and submit verified commission figures by the 15th of each month, and control departmental spending on field travel, the motorbike fleet, and promotional materials.
- Recruit, coach, and appraise sales, marketing, and technical team members as well as volunteers and interns; organise CME seminars, product-usage workshops, and clinical training; and report progress to the General Manager through weekly operations meetings and written weekly and monthly updates.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A demonstrated commercial track record in medical device sales, orthopaedic products, pharmaceutical distribution, or healthcare management — you should be able to point to accounts you won and revenue you grew.
- Prior experience leading a multidisciplinary team, ideally combining sales representatives, field marketers, and technical or clinical support staff.
- Practical financial literacy: pipeline and forecast tracking, budget ownership, and hands-on involvement in regional credit control or collections.
- Strong negotiation and key account management ability, with the strategic instinct to identify and open new territories.
- Enough technical fluency to discuss surgical workflows, theatre protocols, and implant or device specifications credibly with clinicians.
- Excellent communication and coaching skills, plus the relationship-building stamina needed to retain customers and manage multiple stakeholders.
- A degree or diploma in business, marketing, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is expected; clinical or life-sciences training alongside commercial experience is an advantage.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A full-time position based in Kenya with a gross monthly remuneration of KES 88,690.
- Direct reporting line to the General Manager, with oversight of the Sales, Marketing, and Theatre Technical Support teams — real decision-making authority rather than a coordination-only mandate.
- A commercial remit that spans strategy and fieldwork: you will shape territory plans, launch new product lines, and build supplier partnerships rather than simply execute someone else's playbook.
- Regular exposure to the clinical environment, including CME sessions and surgeon-facing training, in a business where technical support and sales success are directly linked.
