Job Description

Role Overview

The HSE Specialist acts as an internal advisor and driver for improving health, safety, and environmental performance at the worksite. Day to day, this role involves coaching managers, auditing local practices, reviewing safety data, and coordinating training to make sure HSE is embedded into normal operations rather than treated as a separate checklist. The position exists to help site leadership spot risks early, respond to them correctly, and keep people and the environment protected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with line managers so that HSE becomes a measurable part of leadership duties and business objectives.
  • Help teams apply the company HSE management system, including risk assessments, local procedures, work instructions, and checklists.
  • Prepare and monitor site-level HSE plans that convert corporate expectations into concrete actions and local targets.
  • Coordinate with contractors and external agencies to align HSE requirements and maintain consistent oversight.
  • Run compliance audits and self-audits, then advise management on what corrections or preventive actions are needed.
  • Organize and deliver HSE training, screening sessions, and awareness programs for employees at all levels.
  • Track HSE reports and performance trends, and use that data to recommend practical improvements.
  • Facilitate HSE meetings, LPT meetings, and audits, while supporting investigations into incidents and failures.
  • Maintain the site HSE documentation library, ensuring policies and materials are current and available to all.
  • Keep management informed of new HSE guidance, regulations, and training resources relevant to local operations.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in a similar HSE role, ideally within an operational or industrial setting.
  • A degree in health, safety, environment, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of HSE management systems, local regulations, and compliance auditing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence managers and engage frontline workers.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Quick learner who can translate new information into workable, on-the-ground solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to act on their own initiative.
  • Commitment to following company policies and QHSE standards.
  • Energy industry experience is considered an added advantage.
