Role Overview
This teacher leads English and Literature instruction, translating curriculum goals into daily lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, analysis, and communication skills. The role blends classroom teaching with homeroom, duty, and co-curricular responsibilities, helping students succeed academically while supporting a positive and orderly school culture. The position matters because it directly shapes student mastery, family communication, and the consistent delivery of ambitious academic expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach English and Literature lessons that match curriculum expectations, and work with the Curriculum Development Manager to review or revise materials when needed.
- Build respectful, professional relationships with students, their families, and colleagues through clear communication and consistent conduct.
- Create an organised, developmentally appropriate classroom where students feel focused, safe, and motivated to learn.
- Design learning experiences that spark curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for reading, writing, and literary study.
- Provide accommodations and modifications so every student can access content and meet academic and behavioural expectations.
- Use interactive technology to strengthen instruction, set rigorous goals, and give feedback that helps students take ownership of their progress.
- Track academic data, report student progress to families and other stakeholders, and adjust teaching based on evidence.
- Serve as homeroom teacher, duty teacher, or boarding duty teacher when assigned, and support behaviour intervention programs, clubs, societies, and other school-wide enrichment activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- TSC certification and a relevant degree in Education with English and Literature as teaching subjects.
- One to two years of teaching experience.
- Working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, plus comfort using technology to support instruction and record student information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage students, families, and colleagues clearly and effectively.
- Flexibility and openness to change, including the ability to handle uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity well.
- A proactive problem-solving approach: identifying issues, taking initiative, and following through to find appropriate solutions.
- Commitment to modelling expected behaviour, maintaining consistent rewards and consequences, and holding students to ambitious academic standards.
