Role Overview
This is a hands-on, street-level sales role for someone who is comfortable spending the day out in the market rather than behind a desk. You will be the face of our building materials range across Syokimau and the surrounding neighbourhoods, building relationships with the people who actually specify and buy on site — contractors, fundis, foremen and home builders. Your work directly drives order volume, so how well you cover your territory and follow up on leads each day has a visible impact on the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Move through your assigned territory daily, calling on building contractors, fundis, foremen, home builders and other prospective buyers of building materials.
- Present and promote our product range to customers, explaining what is available and helping them match materials to the job at hand.
- Convert conversations into confirmed orders, following up on quotes, enquiries and repeat business until the sale is closed.
- Keep track of what customers are asking for, which products are moving, and how competitor pricing or availability is affecting demand in the area.
- Report market feedback, customer complaints and emerging demand patterns to your supervisor so stock and pricing decisions stay grounded in reality.
- Work towards agreed daily and weekly sales targets, reviewing your own numbers and adjusting your route or approach to stay on track.
- Maintain a reliable pipeline of contacts, keeping records of the customers you visit and the status of each opportunity.
- Represent the business professionally at all times — punctual, presentable and honest in every customer interaction.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience in field sales, retail sales, or working within a hardware environment.
- KCSE / Form Four certificate. A sales or business-related qualification is an added advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of Syokimau and the surrounding areas, including the routes, trading centres and building sites where customers operate.
- Confident verbal communication in Kiswahili, with basic English for written and spoken interactions.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, managing your own daily schedule and territory.
- Demonstrated honesty and integrity, with the energy and resilience to keep prospecting through a full day in the field.
- Comfortable approaching strangers, opening conversations and handling objections without losing momentum.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A field-based role with real autonomy — you plan your own day and own your territory.
- Clear daily and weekly targets so you always know how your performance is being measured.
- Direct exposure to the building materials trade and the chance to build a long-term network of contractors and fundis in a growing area.
