Role Overview
As a Warehouse Picker, you are the point where a customer order turns into the correct physical goods leaving the building. Working from picking documents, scanners, or the warehouse management system, you locate, verify, and assemble fast-moving consumer goods — including cosmetics and personal-care lines — so that every consignment matches what was ordered in type, quantity, and condition. Your accuracy directly protects product quality and shelf life, keeps stock records trustworthy, and determines whether deliveries reach customers on time and undamaged.
Key Responsibilities
- Retrieve the correct items from assigned warehouse locations using picking lists, handheld terminals, barcode scanners, or the warehouse management system.
- Confirm SKU codes, product descriptions, quantities, batch or lot numbers, and expiry dates against the order before an item is removed from its location.
- Apply FIFO and FEFO stock-rotation rules so that older or shorter-dated stock moves first.
- Handle cosmetics, personal-care items, and other FMCG goods with care to avoid crushing, leakage, contamination, or deterioration.
- Cross-check each picked consignment against the picking document, then pack and stage it so it travels without damage and still looks presentable on arrival.
- Flag damaged, leaking, expired, short-dated, or mislabelled stock to the Warehouse Supervisor and report any stock discrepancies found during picking.
- Keep picking aisles, storage locations, and workstations clean, tidy, and clear of hazards, and follow hygiene, health and safety, and housekeeping rules at all times.
- Pitch in with stock counts, cycle counts, stocktakes, replenishment, put-away, loading, and offloading when the warehouse schedule requires it.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum KCSE certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Prior exposure to a warehouse, distribution centre, FMCG, cosmetics, manufacturing, or retail setting is an advantage.
- Comfortable working with picking lists, barcode scanners, handheld terminals, or warehouse management systems.
- Basic grasp of stock control and inventory procedures, including why rotation and accurate counts matter.
- Able to read and interpret product codes, labels, quantities, and picking instructions correctly.
- Strong attention to detail, reliable counting and numerical skills, and the physical coordination to sustain repetitive picking work.
- Disciplined, punctual, and dependable, with a demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, hygiene, and product integrity.
- Works well in a team, communicates clearly with colleagues and supervisors, and follows standard operating procedures without shortcuts.
- Available for shifts, weekends, and overtime when business demands require it.
