Role Overview

This position centres on preparing learners to perform confidently in high-stakes international English examinations, while also strengthening the everyday reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills they need for academic and professional life. Working within a college, TVET, or secondary setting, the instructor designs and delivers lessons, tracks learner progress, and adjusts teaching methods so that students from varied linguistic and cultural starting points can reach measurable gains. The role matters because examination results and communication confidence directly shape learners' access to further study, employment, and mobility, making consistent, well-planned instruction a core part of the institution's academic mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach structured lessons covering grammar, composition, oral communication, listening comprehension, and reading strategies, mapped to the level and goals of each cohort.
• Prepare candidates for international proficiency examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and Cambridge English, including familiarising learners with test formats, timing, and scoring criteria.
• Develop and administer mock examinations, practice tasks, and formative assessments, then use the results to diagnose gaps and refine subsequent teaching.
• Provide detailed, actionable feedback on written work and spoken performance, helping learners recognise recurring errors and self-correct over time.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment outcomes, and learner progress, and report these through the institution's established channels.
• Mentor and motivate students who arrive with differing educational backgrounds, confidence levels, and cultural expectations, offering targeted support where needed.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment, shared teaching resources, and consistency of standards across classes and terms.
• Meet scheduled marking, reporting, and examination deadlines without compromising the quality of instruction or feedback.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: A bachelor's degree in English, English literature, linguistics, English-medium education, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
• Certification: A valid teaching certificate or current registration with the relevant professional body, where such registration is applicable.
• Examination teaching experience: Demonstrated track record of preparing learners for IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge English, or comparable international English proficiency tests.
• Classroom experience: A minimum of two years teaching in a college, TVET, or secondary school environment.
• Subject command: Proven ability to teach English grammar, writing, speaking, listening, and reading at the levels required by the institution.
• Added advantage: Experience coaching students for national or international English examinations beyond the standard classroom syllabus.
• Professional conduct: A high standard of professionalism, integrity, reliability, and genuine commitment to academic excellence.
• Learner support: The ability to mentor, encourage, and support students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the clarity needed to explain complex language concepts.
• Analytical skills: Sound research and critical thinking abilities, applied to lesson design and the evaluation of learner performance.
• Organisation: Effective time management, close attention to detail, and the resilience to work accurately under pressure and against frequently recurring deadlines.
