Head Housekeeper

Role Overview

This position places you at the heart of a private family residence in Djibouti, where you will take full ownership of daily domestic operations. Your focus will be twofold: delivering impeccable housekeeping standards and preparing nutritious, flavorful meals across multiple culinary traditions. The family depends on you to maintain a smoothly run household with minimal oversight, making your reliability, cultural awareness, and ability to work independently essential to their everyday comfort.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thorough cleaning duties across all rooms, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitising surfaces, while keeping the home consistently neat and orderly.
• Plan and cook a varied repertoire of dishes encompassing international, Middle Eastern, English, and American cuisines, adapting menus to family preferences and dietary needs.
• Manage all aspects of laundry, from washing and drying to ironing, folding, and properly storing clothing and household textiles.
• Coordinate meal preparation by taking inventory of kitchen supplies, compiling grocery lists, and assisting with shopping or market runs as required.
• Carry out general household support tasks such as running errands, organising storage spaces, and handling minor domestic duties that arise during the day.
• Look after the family’s personal belongings with care and maintain absolute confidentiality, respecting the household’s privacy at all times.
• Communicate proactively with the family about household needs, food stock levels, and any issues that require attention.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Must hold Kenyan citizenship and possess a valid Kenyan passport; female candidates are strongly preferred for this placement.
• Must be willing and available to relocate to Djibouti for a long-term domestic role.
• Demonstrated prior experience as a private housekeeper, domestic worker, or in a similarly responsible household position.
• Proven culinary ability, particularly with Middle Eastern and international recipes, along with confidence in preparing English and American dishes.
• High level of trustworthiness, honesty, and discretion, with a respectful and professional demeanour when working in close proximity to the family.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions accurately while also working autonomously.
• Good verbal communication skills to understand household expectations and to coordinate daily tasks effectively.
