Role Overview
This role puts you on the shop floor as the face customers meet first, guiding them from a browse to a confident purchase while keeping the sales area looking its best. You will balance one-to-one service with the practical side of retail — running the till, keeping shelves stocked, and making sure promotions and displays are set up correctly. Success in this position directly shapes how customers feel about the brand and how consistently the store hits its daily and weekly sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome walk-in customers, ask questions to understand what they need, and recommend products that fit their requirements and budget.
- Identify opportunities to upsell premium options and cross-sell related or complementary items, contributing to individual and team sales targets.
- Operate the point-of-sale system to process purchases, returns, exchanges, and refunds accurately while handling cash and card payments securely.
- Replenish stock on the sales floor, check pricing and labels, and flag low-stock or fast-moving items to the supervisor.
- Build and refresh product displays and promotional setups in line with merchandising guidelines to keep the store visually appealing.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints politely, escalating issues that fall outside your authority to the appropriate manager.
- Keep up to date with product features, current promotions, and store policies so advice given to customers is accurate.
- Support opening and closing routines, fitting room or counter coverage, and general tidiness across the sales area as part of the shift team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail or sales environment, ideally in a customer-facing role.
- Strong spoken communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage shoppers who are just browsing.
- Demonstrated ability to upsell and cross-sell, and a track record of helping a team meet or exceed sales targets.
- Basic working knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Some exposure to merchandising, product placement, or display management.
- Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and rotating shift patterns as the store schedule requires.
- Diploma or degree in Business, Sales & Marketing, or a related field.
