Role Overview

This position sits at the intersection of teaching, research and student development within the Department of Home Science, with a specialist focus on Clothing and Textiles. Working under the direction of the Head of Department, the post holder delivers lectures and practical sessions, shapes curriculum content, and builds an active research profile that contributes to the wider scholarly agenda of the University. The role matters because it directly supports the institution's dual mission: producing well-prepared graduates and generating knowledge that advances the discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach courses and units assigned by the Head of Department, covering both theoretical instruction and applied work in Clothing and Textiles.
• Design, plan and deliver programmes of study across a range of levels, including the development of entirely new courses where required.
• Deliver high-quality lectures, laboratory sessions and practical classes that meet departmental and institutional teaching standards.
• Review course outlines and teaching materials on a regular cycle, revising content to keep it current with disciplinary developments.
• Work alongside academic colleagues on curriculum revision, course development and the growth of shared research activity.
• Conduct independent research, prepare grant proposals and pursue consultancy opportunities linked to the field.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences and other scholarly forums, and disseminate outputs through appropriate channels.
• Provide mentorship, academic advice and career guidance to students and junior staff members.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by supervisors or outlined in the detailed job description for the post.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Registration for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field, with demonstrable satisfactory progress toward completion.
• A Master's degree in Home Science (Clothing & Textiles) from an accredited or recognised university.
• A Bachelor's degree in Home Science (Clothing & Textiles) from an accredited or recognised university.
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant post-qualification work experience.
• Demonstrated university-level teaching experience and a track record of research engagement.
• Registration with, or eligibility for recognition by, the relevant professional body where applicable.
