Role Overview
This role owns the numbers that sit behind the organisation's reporting — keeping the general ledger accurate, well structured and fully reconciled, and turning those records into IFRS-compliant financial statements. Day to day it means working the close cycle hand in hand with revenue, finance systems and reporting teams, resolving discrepancies before they reach the numbers, and keeping statutory obligations and audits on track. It matters because the CFO, the Regional Controllership Manager and external regulators all rely on this position to confirm that what is recorded is complete, correctly classified and defensible.
Key Responsibilities
- General ledger ownership: prepare, review and post accruals, provisions, reallocations, adjustments and period-end entries, and investigate and clear accounting discrepancies promptly rather than letting them roll forward.
- Ledger alignment: keep the general ledger and its supporting sub-ledgers in agreement, and support updates to ledger structures and master data as reporting needs evolve.
- Fixed asset accounting: maintain the Fixed Asset Register and asset master data, review capital expenditure, and confirm correct classification, capitalisation, depreciation, impairment, disposal treatment and recognition of sale proceeds — including reconciliation of the register to the general ledger and validation of GIS asset records and related reporting.
- Close and reporting cycle: run the financial close calendar, communicate timelines and deliverables across teams, and align general ledger, SAP Finance, revenue and reporting systems through period-end and year-end activity.
- Statements and reconciliations: prepare balance sheet reconciliations and contribute to the preparation of statutory financial statements.
- Compliance and audit: manage statutory filings and remittances, coordinate engagements, audits and reviews with statutory and regulatory bodies, and supply schedules and supporting evidence for internal and external audit requests.
- Staff debtors: handle the accounting and reconciliation of amounts owed by employees, covering journal processing, allocations and payroll deductions.
- Governance and business partnering: report accounting movements and key general ledger matters to the CFO and Regional Controllership Manager, take part in regional controllership forums, training and knowledge-sharing, act as the primary finance contact for in-country accounting matters, and develop reporting templates, ad hoc analyses and a reporting repository.
