Role Overview
As a Water Systems Chemist, you will be the technical backbone of water treatment and quality assurance efforts, conducting laboratory analyses and field sampling to keep drinking water, wastewater, and industrial water systems within regulatory and operational limits. Your daily work directly supports environmental compliance, public health protection, and the reliability of utility operations in a remote, mission-driven setting. By monitoring chemical parameters, documenting results, and collaborating with operations teams, you help prevent water quality issues before they escalate.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and process water samples from potable, wastewater, and industrial systems, following established sampling protocols and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Perform routine and non-routine chemical analyses using standard laboratory instruments, and interpret results against applicable Navy environmental, public health, and utility operations standards.
- Prepare reagents, calibration standards, and testing supplies, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and repeatable measurements.
- Record analytical data in logbooks and electronic systems, evaluate trends, and flag deviations that may require treatment process adjustments.
- Assist utility operations personnel in troubleshooting water quality problems, recommending corrective actions, and verifying the effectiveness of treatment changes.
- Support internal and external inspections and audits by providing documentation, explaining testing methods, and addressing findings related to laboratory operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment, adhering to chemical hygiene, waste disposal, and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with utility operations and environmental staff to resolve identified deficiencies and ensure continuous compliance with water quality requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience in water treatment, water quality testing, chemistry, or environmental laboratory operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Foundational knowledge of water chemistry, sampling techniques, and laboratory testing procedures.
- Ability to operate standard laboratory instruments and follow written testing protocols accurately.
- Proficiency in recordkeeping, data entry, and preparing clear, concise reports.
- Must possess a valid passport with at least one year of remaining validity at the time of hire, and be able to travel internationally.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization, and successfully pass contract medical requirements, maintaining compliance throughout deployment.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas as required by the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Strong English communication skills—reading, speaking, and comprehension—sufficient to perform contract duties and follow installation emergency procedures.
Why Join
This role offers the rare chance to apply your chemistry skills in a setting where every test and measurement contributes to the reliability of water systems that are critical to the mission and to environmental compliance. You will work in a remote, mission-focused environment alongside utility operations professionals who depend on your expertise to protect public health and sustain essential services.
