Role Overview

As a Driving Instructor, you will be the primary guide helping learners move from novice to capable, safety-conscious drivers. Working under the Branch Manager, you will blend classroom theory with on-road practice, adapting your approach to each learner’s confidence and skill level. Your work directly affects how well learners perform on official tests and how safely they behave on real roads after they qualify.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver structured theory sessions covering the highway code, road signs, traffic regulations, defensive driving techniques, and basic vehicle mechanics.
• Conduct practical lessons in a dual-control vehicle, guiding learners through vehicle handling, gear changes, clutch control, steering, parking, reversing, three-point turns, hill starts, and emergency manoeuvres.
• Assess each learner’s progress with regular mock tests, identify weak areas, and adjust lesson plans to match individual learning speeds.
• Prepare learners for NTSA driving examinations by familiarising them with test routes, expected standards, and common failure points.
• Maintain accurate training records, including attendance, lesson notes, skill assessments, and test results, and share updates with the Branch Manager.
• Perform routine safety checks on the training vehicle before and after lessons, checking tyres, brakes, lights, mirrors, fluid levels, and dual controls, and reporting faults promptly.
• Enforce strict safety practices during every lesson, including seatbelt use, mirror checks, speed limits, and calm, clear instruction during high-pressure situations.
• Provide courteous customer service to learners and their families, handle scheduling queries professionally, and contribute to a positive learning environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Valid driving licence for the vehicle classes you will teach.
• NTSA Accredited Instructor Training Certificate and a current NTSA Instructor Licence.
• KCSE certificate.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in technical training, professional driver instruction, or teaching.
• A Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Technical Training, an automotive-related field, Education, or a similar discipline is an added advantage.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining consistent lesson quality and punctuality.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with the patience to explain complex driving concepts clearly.
• Confident, safety-first attitude and the ability to stay composed when learners make mistakes.
