Job Description
Role Overview
This role sits inside the Group Actuarial function and focuses on the machinery behind the numbers rather than only the numbers themselves. Working closely with the Actuarial Manager – Systems and Reporting, the analyst helps shift IFRS 17 reporting for both the Life and General Insurance businesses away from manual, spreadsheet-heavy routines and toward automated, well-controlled production. The work matters because a faster and cleaner reporting cycle gives the group stronger confidence in its valuation and reserving outputs while freeing actuarial time for analysis instead of processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Help design and roll out automated workflows that generate IFRS 17 actuarial results across the Life and General Insurance entities.
- Prepare, cleanse and validate the data that feeds actuarial models, then reconcile it back to source systems so problems surface before they reach reported figures.
- Keep model configurations, assumption sets and supporting documentation current and ready for review as the reporting basis evolves.
- Build, test and refine models used for valuation, reserving and forward-looking financial projections.
- Connect actuarial models to group reporting platforms and data infrastructure, diagnosing and resolving breaks in the flow of information between systems.
- Run test cycles for system changes and upgrades, and document results including expected versus actual behaviour.
- Partner with Finance, IT and subsidiary actuarial colleagues to keep outputs accurate, consistent and comparable across entities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or another quantitative discipline.
- A minimum of two years' experience in an actuarial role.
- Progress toward IFoA, SOA, ASSA or an equivalent actuarial qualification, with at least three examination passes completed.
- Working understanding of IFRS 17 measurement and disclosure concepts as they apply to Life and/or General Insurance.
- Practical use of an actuarial modelling package such as Prophet, MoSes, AXIS or a comparable tool.
- Strong Excel skills; exposure to SQL, Python or Power BI is an advantage.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving ability paired with meticulous attention to detail.
- Self-driven and curious about actuarial systems, automation and process improvement.
- A collaborative communicator who stays organised and delivers when timelines are tight.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
