Role Overview
This role owns the actuarial reporting engine for a multi-entity insurance group, concentrating on making IFRS 17 calculations quicker, better controlled, and easier to audit. Day to day, the manager moves between actuarial models, finance ledgers, and data pipelines, converting recurring manual steps into dependable automated processes that Life and General Insurance teams can reuse. The Group depends on this work to get consistent, defensible actuarial numbers into financial reporting on time and without reconciliation surprises.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the shift from manual IFRS 17 reporting to automated, system-driven workflows for both Life and General Insurance entities.
- Work alongside Finance and IT to connect actuarial data sources with accounting systems, resolving differences in timing, detail, and reconciliation.
- Keep actuarial system settings, assumptions, and methodologies current so they meet IFRS 17 requirements and Group policy.
- Review actuarial outputs for accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness before they enter financial reporting.
- Build and maintain documented models for reserving, pricing, and projections, embedding version control and quality assurance.
- Drive upgrades, enhancements, and continuous improvement of actuarial systems, including integration with enterprise platforms and dashboards.
- Partner with subsidiary actuarial teams to align assumptions, methodologies, and model configurations, and work with Group Finance, Risk, and IT to embed actuarial systems into wider processes.
- Coach colleagues on model governance and system practices, contribute to Group actuarial governance forums, maintain methodology documentation, and support internal and external model validation.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline.
- At least six passed actuarial examinations from a recognised body such as the IFoA, SOA, ASSA, or an equivalent association.
- Five or more years of actuarial experience, including direct involvement in IFRS 17 implementation, actuarial modelling, and systemisation.
- Hands-on ability with actuarial software such as Prophet, MoSes, AXIS, or a comparable modelling platform.
- Working knowledge of SQL, Python, and Power BI for data management, analysis, and reporting.
- Solid grasp of insurance financial reporting and reserving methodologies, with the ability to trace actuarial results through to financial statements.
- Advanced analytical, modelling, and problem-solving skills, paired with a systems orientation and commitment to precision and auditability.
- Evidence of influencing and collaborating with Finance, Risk, and IT stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience mentoring or upskilling colleagues, plus resilience and agility in a changing regulatory and business environment.
