Role Overview
The Accountant will oversee the firm’s routine financial operations, maintain dependable records, and ensure transactions are handled in line with internal controls. By producing accurate reports and keeping Kenyan statutory obligations on schedule, this role gives management a sound basis for financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Process day-to-day accounting activity across payables, receivables, the general ledger, and other financial transactions.
- Maintain cash books and reconcile bank and other account balances, investigating and resolving differences.
- Check and process invoices, receipts, supplier payments, petty cash, and related records under the firm’s approval procedures.
- Prepare periodic financial and management reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash-flow reports, and supporting analysis.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end close activities, confirming that records are complete and figures are accurate.
- Track cash flow, amounts due from customers, and amounts owed to suppliers, and share timely updates on the firm’s financial position.
- Assist with budgets, forecasts, and variance reviews to support financial planning and monitoring.
- Prepare, file, and settle applicable statutory obligations, including KRA, NSSF, and SHA requirements, while maintaining well-organised, confidential supporting records.
- Carry out authorised banking and treasury tasks, documenting transactions and providing accounting information to management when needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with an Accounting focus, or a related field.
- CPA Part II or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- At least six years of practical accounting experience, ideally in a busy finance team, professional-services firm, or corporate setting.
- Working proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and Kenyan tax requirements.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving ability, with careful attention to detail and a track record of meeting deadlines.
- Integrity, discretion with confidential information, and effective communication and teamwork skills.
