Role Overview
This is a field-based leadership position within an insurance sales unit, where your primary focus is building and steering a team of agents toward agreed revenue goals. Day-to-day, you will recruit, train, and coach agents, set their work schedules, and monitor their performance against business targets, while also opening new market opportunities. Your efforts directly determine the unit's sales output, persistency, and overall contribution to the branch's business plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the unit towards meeting its revenue, persistency, and business mix targets as outlined in the branch business plan.
- Proactively recruit new insurance agents and put in place retention strategies that keep productive agents engaged and motivated.
- Set daily and weekly activity schedules for the unit, assigning clear tasks and monitoring each agent's performance against expected outcomes.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and field evaluations to identify underperformance, provide coaching, and enforce corrective action where necessary.
- Design and coordinate training programs that build agents' product knowledge, sales techniques, and compliance awareness.
- Support agents by ensuring they have the necessary tools, leads, and administrative support to achieve their individual budgets.
- Develop new markets and distribution channels, while identifying competitive threats and opportunities to report to management.
- Uphold the company's brand image and ensure the unit operates in full compliance with internal policies and external insurance regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in a business-related discipline from a recognised institution.
- At least three years of proven sales experience within the insurance or financial services sector.
- A minimum of two years managing a unit or agency team in insurance or finance is an added advantage.
- Demonstrable track record as a productive insurance agent with a successful sales history.
- Valid COP (Certificate of Proficiency) and a current IRA license as required by Kenyan insurance regulations.
- Solid understanding of the legislation governing insurance businesses in Kenya, including distribution and consumer protection norms.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to listen empathetically and resolve conflicts within the team.
- Strong planning, time management, and organisational abilities, particularly in coordinating team meetings and field activities.
- Sales and marketing capability, plus leadership skills to build, bond, and motivate a cohesive unit.
- Adept at market intelligence, business development, and using Microsoft Office tools for reporting and analysis.
