Job Description

Role Overview

This position requires a qualified technical trainer to deliver both theoretical and practical instruction to students enrolled in vocational and technical programmes. You will play a direct role in shaping learners into competent, job-ready graduates by implementing competency-based education and training (CBET) methods, assessing learner progress, and maintaining a safe and effective training environment. Your daily work will be central to the institution's mission of producing skilled professionals who meet the demands of the local and national labour market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed lesson plans, training modules, and practical exercise sheets that align with the approved curriculum and CBET standards.
  • Deliver engaging classroom sessions and hands-on practical demonstrations, ensuring all learners clearly understand both concepts and procedures.
  • Design and administer competency-based assessments, including written tests, practical examinations, and workplace simulations, while accurately recording learner results.
  • Maintain and supervise the use of training equipment, tools, and materials, ensuring they are safe, functional, and properly accounted for.
  • Provide individual guidance and remedial instruction to learners who require additional support to meet competency benchmarks.
  • Supervise learners during industrial attachment or field-based practical training, evaluating their performance and giving constructive feedback.
  • Keep accurate learner attendance, progress, and assessment records, and submit timely reports to academic administration.
  • Participate in curriculum review, departmental meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives to keep the training content relevant to industry needs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold at least a Diploma, Higher National Diploma, or a Degree in a relevant technical or vocational discipline.
  • Possess a valid TVETA Trainers License from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (this is a compulsory requirement for the role).
  • Demonstrate practical expertise in the subject area you will be teaching, with the ability to translate industrial knowledge into structured learning activities.
  • Have a clear understanding of CBET methodologies and proficiency in designing outcome-based assessments.
  • Display strong communication and classroom management skills, with the ability to engage learners of varying aptitude levels.
  • Be familiar with occupational health and safety practices in a workshop or laboratory environment.
