Role Overview
As the cashier on duty, you are the point where patron transactions become accountable program revenue — verifying eligibility, accepting payment, and turning a day's activity into a balanced, documented deposit. The work sits at the intersection of guest service and financial control: patrons judge the operation by how smoothly you handle their visit, while auditors judge it by how clean your records and reconciliations are. Getting both right keeps recreational programs funded, compliant, and welcoming.
Key Responsibilities
- Process patron payments: accept cash, checks, and other approved forms of payment, confirm each patron's eligibility before completing a sale, and keep each transaction moving efficiently.
- Prepare and deliver deposits: balance receipts, bag currency and equivalents together with the Daily Activity Report, and place them in the MWR central cashier's night depository or hand them to the Central Cashier cage as local procedure requires.
- Maintain transaction records: document every financial activity completely and accurately so records hold up under accounting review and reporting standards.
- Follow cash-handling regulations: carry out all collection and deposit activity in line with CNICINST 1710.3 CHAP 1 SEC 114, Operation of MWR Programs, and other government-approved procedures.
- Reconcile daily activity: run routine checks on the day's transactions to confirm accuracy and flag discrepancies or procedural gaps before they compound.
- Deliver front-line customer service: communicate clearly and fluently in English, answer patron questions, resolve concerns, and keep an enthusiastic, responsive, professional demeanor throughout every interaction.
- Handle hazardous materials and safety duties: complete training and stay proficient in the proper handling and storage of hazardous materials to Navy standards, and actively enforce safety protocols that keep patrons and staff secure.
- Support the operation: take on additional duties consistent with the nature and level of the position as assigned.
