Role Overview
This academic appointment blends teaching, curriculum development and research in international relations and diplomacy. Reporting to the Head of Department – Hospitality, Tourism and International Relations, the post holder will teach assigned areas, help design and refresh programmes, and strengthen the department’s scholarly and external engagement profile. The role is central to delivering a strong student experience, keeping course content relevant, and building research capacity that connects international relations theory with real-world diplomatic and policy practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach allocated areas within the international relations and diplomacy provision, preparing and delivering lectures, seminars and practical sessions.
- Design, develop, plan and deliver programmes of study, including new courses at different academic levels.
- Review course content and teaching materials regularly, updating them to reflect current scholarship and practice.
- Collaborate with academic colleagues on course development, curriculum changes and the growth of research activities.
- Conduct research and prepare grant proposals to support scholarly projects and funding applications.
- Seek out and participate in consultancy work that draws on expertise in international relations and diplomacy.
- Present research at national and international conferences and other academic events, and disseminate research outputs through suitable channels.
- Provide mentorship, academic support and career guidance to students and staff, and carry out other duties assigned by the Head of Department or detailed in the full job description.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from a recognised or accredited university.
- A bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from a recognised or accredited university.
- At least three years of professional experience gained after completing the relevant qualification.
- Evidence of readiness for university-level teaching and research, whether through prior teaching, scholarly work or comparable academic activity.
- A clear commitment to excellent instruction and to creating a learning environment in which students feel supported and able to succeed.
