Role Overview
This teacher supports learners in a competency-based classroom, delivering planned instruction and varied activities that develop academic knowledge, practical skills, and social responsibility. Day to day, the role involves collaborating on curriculum design, tracking individual progress, adapting lessons to different needs, and keeping families informed. The work is central to helping students meet learning targets and move confidently into their next stage of education or employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and teach classroom sessions that advance the institution's stated purpose and core educational values.
- Co-create curriculum maps, unit sequences, and daily lesson designs alongside teaching colleagues.
- Help learners build the knowledge and competencies they need to progress, meet their targets, and prepare for further study or work.
- Maintain the required teaching file, including unit plans, records of work, course outlines, and analysis of class performance.
- Tailor instruction and materials to different ability levels, learning needs, and classroom dynamics, using a range of participatory activities to keep students actively engaged.
- Curate and display student work and completed projects in the classroom, and arrange regular excursions that give students exposure to environments beyond the classroom.
- Observe student behavior and guide improvement by fostering self-confidence and teaching positive social values, including support for learners with learning differences or behavioral challenges.
- Monitor and update student progress records and prepare reports for parents or guardians.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A PTE Certificate (P1 Certificate) from KNEC, with at least a B- in O-level examinations.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education is an added advantage.
- Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- One to two years of classroom teaching experience at minimum.
- Familiarity with Competency Based Education (CBE) and how it is applied in the classroom.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications for teaching and record-keeping tasks.
