Role Overview
This is a field-based calibration role for someone who likes being hands-on with measurement equipment and taking ownership of a job from schedule to sign-off. You will travel to customer sites to test, adjust and certify storage tanks, flow meters and other measuring devices, then hand the client documented proof that their equipment performs within accepted tolerances. The position matters because the numbers you produce underpin fair trade, regulatory compliance and safe operations for the businesses you serve, and because the certificates and invoices you issue are often the client's only tangible record of the visit.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute calibration of tanks, meters and other measuring instruments at client premises, keeping to the published schedule and adapting method to site conditions.
- Produce calibration charts and certificates for each client, confirm results against the applicable accuracy tolerances, and walk client representatives through the findings.
- Keep the calibration equipment fleet fit for purpose through routine servicing, periodic verification of reference instruments, and tight control of the tool and spares inventory.
- Raise requisitions for inspection consumables and equipment so that field teams are never held up by missing or expired kit.
- Coordinate the logistics that make an assignment happen — transport, access arrangements, permits and travel planning, including deployments to regions away from your home base.
- Prepare and submit risk assessments, job safety analyses and travel management plans to the Health & Safety department before work begins, and apply safe working practice throughout each assignment.
- Close out the commercial side of every job: raise invoices, dispatch them to the client as soon as they are issued, and chase outstanding or unshared local purchase orders.
- Build SMART work plans by region or equipment group to match client demand, and keep personal training needs visible — including applying for NITA sponsorship where it strengthens field performance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of a Diploma in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics, or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Demonstrated experience calibrating meters, tanks and other measuring devices, ideally in a field service or inspection environment.
- Basic training or working knowledge of legal metrology is preferred.
- Familiarity with the local and international standards that govern sound engineering and calibration practice, and an understanding of what working within an ISO/IEC 17020 accredited inspection system requires.
- Valid driving licence and the confidence to drive regularly to client sites.
- Proficient written and verbal English, with the documentation discipline to match — certificates, invoices and safety paperwork all need to be accurate and on time.
- Willingness to be deployed to any region of the country outside your normal residence, and to travel at short notice.
- Personal commitment to business ethics, client confidentiality, and the operational integrity standards and KPIs that apply to this type of work.
What We Offer / Why Join
- Exposure to a broad mix of client sites and equipment types, from tank farms to metering installations, rather than a single fixed location.
- A structured safety culture — annual safety and integrity briefings, formal sign-off processes, and clear H&S protocols you are expected to follow and enforce.
- Support for your own development, including the route to NITA-sponsored training where a skills gap is identified and justified.
- Autonomy over your schedule and work plans, with the responsibility for invoicing and client follow-up that comes with it.
- Work delivered under an ISO/IEC 17020 accredited framework, giving your calibration output recognisable professional standing.
