Role Overview
This position places a specialist art and design teacher at the centre of the classroom, responsible for turning the school's curriculum into lessons that build genuine creative skill rather than routine output. Day to day, the teacher plans and delivers practical studio lessons, assesses how each learner is progressing, and adjusts their approach so that students of different abilities and temperaments can all succeed. The role matters because creative subjects give students a place to build confidence, discipline and self-expression, and the teacher is the person who makes that happen consistently across the year.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and teach art and design lessons that reflect the school's stated vision and mission, holding a consistently high standard of instruction.
- Work alongside fellow teachers to build unit plans and lesson plans that map coherently across the curriculum.
- Help learners develop strong subject knowledge and practical technique so they meet their targets and are properly prepared for the next stage of their education or career.
- Maintain the required teaching documentation, including unit plans, records of work, course outlines and class analyses.
- Differentiate instruction and tasks so that lessons are accessible and appropriately challenging for learners at different levels of ability.
- Use a varied mix of learning activities, including hands-on creative work, to keep learners actively engaged in lessons.
- Curate and display learners' finished work and projects in the classroom so students can see their own progress and take pride in their achievements.
- Organise regular excursions that expose learners to new environments and broaden their creative frame of reference.
- Observe learners' behaviour, support their social and emotional development, and build self-confidence through teaching sound social values.
- Provide targeted guidance to learners with learning differences or behavioural challenges, adapting support to their individual needs.
- Track, record and update each child's progress, and prepare reports that communicate that progress clearly to parents.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Art & Design or Fine Art, or a BEd in Art & Design / Fine Art.
- Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is mandatory.
- A minimum of one to two years' hands-on teaching experience.
- Familiarity with the Competency Based Education approach and the ability to apply it in planning and delivery.
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications for documentation, record-keeping and reporting.
- Strong classroom management skills, with the patience and insight to support learners who have behavioural or learning differences.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for producing teaching documents and engaging with parents.
