Job Description

Role Overview

This role sits within the bank's credit risk and recoveries function, focused on converting non-performing and classified assets back into recoverable value. Day to day, the position holder directs the full recovery cycle for secured and unsecured facilities, leads collateral realisation through legal and market channels, and manages the teams and external vendors who execute these workouts. The role is essential to minimising portfolio losses, maintaining regulatory compliance, and protecting the institution's overall asset quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead recovery efforts on title deed and mixed collateral exposures, driving resolution strategies for each assigned portfolio and ensuring prompt action on defaulted accounts.
  • Manage classified loans and collections processes, covering portfolio segmentation, follow-up schedules, and escalation paths for high-value or complex accounts.
  • Oversee collateral enforcement, repossession, and disposal, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external partners to secure the strongest possible recovery value.
  • Supervise recovery teams and external service providers, setting performance targets, monitoring execution, and ensuring consistent adherence to approved policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements across all recovery actions, including statutory notices, debtor rights protections, and mandatory reporting obligations.
  • Monitor team performance by preparing management and board-level reports, tracking recovery metrics, and identifying trends that require corrective action.
  • Support recovery strategy development and staff development initiatives, introducing improved collection techniques and building long-term team capability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, Banking, or a closely related discipline.
  • A Certified Credit Professional (CCP) or an equivalent credit qualification is mandatory.
  • Five to eight or more years of hands-on debt recovery experience, with at least three years spent in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Strong working knowledge of land and security realisation, statutory notice procedures, and forced-sale valuation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing external professionals including advocates, valuers, estate agents, and auctioneers in both recovery and disposal activities.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence internal teams and external stakeholders under pressure.
