Role Overview

This academic appointment sits within a university faculty and combines teaching, research, and service in roughly equal measure. The post holder prepares course material, teaches and examines students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and supervises the projects, dissertations, and theses that carry those students to completion. Beyond the classroom, the role calls for an active research and publication profile, plus engagement with industry, community partners, and the departmental work that keeps programmes running well.

Key Responsibilities

• Design course outlines, teaching materials, and assessment instruments, then deliver lectures and tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Act as an academic mentor, guiding students through their programmes and supporting their intellectual and professional growth.
• Set, moderate, and mark examination papers for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Supervise student projects, dissertations, and theses, and oversee educational activities, field trips, and industrial attachment placements.
• Initiate, join, or lead research projects in the area of specialisation and publish findings in peer-reviewed outlets.
• Contribute to the design, review, and evaluation of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, including the creation of new courses.
• Take part in departmental planning, annual faculty plans, ad-hoc committees, and other administrative tasks that support effective management of the department.
• Provide consultancy and community service, build linkages with industry players, and participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences in the relevant field.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Standard route: an earned PhD degree or its equivalent from an accredited and recognised university.
• Special-case route (Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health): a Master's degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognised university, plus at least three years of teaching experience at university level, or equivalent research or industry experience.
• A research and publication record worth a minimum of 24 points, of which at least 16 must come from refereed journal articles; alternatively, one published post-secondary textbook or four book chapters pitched at undergraduate level or above.
• Registration with the relevant professional body where one applies to the discipline.
• Practical familiarity with curriculum development, assessment moderation, and the supervision of student research at university level.
