Role Overview

This academic appointment sits at the centre of the Department's teaching, research and service mission, carrying responsibility for shaping how students learn, how knowledge is produced, and how the discipline grows on campus and beyond. The post holder moves fluidly between the lecture theatre, the supervision desk and the research office — designing curricula, examining students, mentoring the next generation of scholars, and pursuing funded research that strengthens the Department's standing. Success in this role means contributing a steady stream of scholarly output, credible research funding, and capable graduates, while lending time and judgement to the committee and planning work that keeps the Department and Faculty running.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the planning, design, delivery and periodic review of curricula offered by the Department, ensuring programmes stay current and academically sound.
• Teach, assess and evaluate undergraduate and postgraduate students across the Department's programmes.
• Set and moderate examinations, administer and invigilate assessment sessions, process results, and mark student scripts and coursework.
• Provide academic advising and mentoring to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, supporting their progression and academic development.
• Author and continuously refresh teaching and learning materials, including course notes, assessment instruments and digital resources.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, guiding students from proposal through to final submission.
• Develop research proposals and secure external funding to support the Department's research agenda.
• Publish scholarly work and take part in seminars, workshops, conferences and meetings that advance research and build interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the Department.
• Serve on committees and contribute to the preparation and execution of Departmental and Faculty strategic plans.
• Organise and oversee educational activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Take on administrative, academic and consultancy duties within the Department and with partner organisations.

Requirements & Qualifications

• An earned PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognised university.
• Alternatively, a Master's degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognised university — considered in special cases — combined with at least three (3) years of teaching experience at university level, or equivalent experience in research or industry.
• A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which no fewer than ten (10) must derive from refereed journal papers.
• Current registration with the relevant professional body, where such registration applies to the discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and assess at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise student research, and work collegially within a departmental structure.
