Job Description

Role Overview

Pearl Hospital is hiring a Finance Officer who will own the daily accounting cycle — booking and verifying transactions, tying out bank, cash, supplier and debtor balances, and making sure the money the hospital bills through its system, insurers and corporate clients actually matches what lands in the accounts. Reporting to the Director Operations, this position is the day-to-day control point that keeps financial records complete, statutory filings on time, and revenue leakage visible before it becomes a problem. It suits someone who works methodically, closes tasks rather than leaving them open, and treats accuracy as non-negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture and review daily financial transactions, ensuring entries are correctly coded and supported by documentation.
  • Run and clear reconciliations across bank, cash, supplier, debtor and general-ledger accounts.
  • Match hospital-system revenue against insurance claims submitted and payments actually received, investigating and resolving variances.
  • Track receivables and follow up outstanding insurer and corporate account balances to reduce ageing.
  • Process supplier invoices and prepare payment schedules in line with approved terms and internal authorisation.
  • Assist with payroll preparation and payroll account reconciliation.
  • Produce monthly financial reports and month-end schedules, and file statutory returns including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and the Housing Levy.
  • Maintain fixed-asset, inventory and general financial records, and prepare schedules and support documents for internal and external audits.
  • Support departmental budgeting and expenditure monitoring, flagging transaction errors, revenue leakage and control weaknesses, and enforcing hospital financial policies and approval procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a closely related discipline.
  • CPA Part III, CPA Advanced Level or a higher qualification.
  • Three to five years of hands-on accounting experience in a comparable role.
  • Proven track record across reconciliations, receivables, payables, payroll, taxation and financial reporting.
  • Strong working command of Microsoft Excel and day-to-day accounting software.
  • Practical familiarity with KRA iTax, eTIMS and wider statutory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, integrity, organisation and accountability in handling financial records.
  • Able to work independently and consistently hit strict reporting deadlines.

Added advantage:

  • Prior experience in a hospital or another healthcare organisation.
  • Exposure to hospital billing, insurance claims and revenue-cycle reconciliation.
  • Working familiarity with hospital management or ERP systems.
