Role Overview
You will take end-to-end ownership of the ERPNext environment that powers daily operations across multiple group companies, from the server-side scripts and custom data structures to the integrations feeding live production data into the system. Your work directly determines whether field teams can log feed, mortality, and stock movement accurately, and whether finance and leadership can trust the numbers that flow into their reporting platforms. Beyond maintaining stability, you will lead a small engineering team, set the technical standards, and act as the bridge between operational users and the Frappe platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain the ERPNext estate across all group entities, including custom doctypes, client and server scripts, workflow definitions, and valuation rules such as fixed rates for gutted fish SKUs and warehouse-specific variance posting.
- Ensure the reliability of critical business workflows, edge-case handling, system uptime, and the health of background jobs and queues running on Frappe Cloud.
- Execute controlled data remediation using System Console scripts and targeted fixes, with strict change control, rollback plans, and documented runbooks for recurring incidents.
- Oversee releases, patches, upgrades, user role assignments, permissions, and compliance with data protection requirements under the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019).
- Design and maintain integrations that push operational data into ERPNext, including M-Pesa / Daraja payment flows, Power Automate / SharePoint field-data synchronization, and other third-party APIs.
- Own the upstream data capture logic for feed and mortality logging, stock movement and consumption tracking, and purchase-to-receipt and billing workflows, ensuring clean data enters the system at the source.
- Support offline-first field applications such as the Victory Feed Log PWA and the pipelines that convert their captured data into ERPNext Stock Entries.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of developers, establishing coding, testing, code-review, and release standards while managing external vendor relationships and an on-call support model without single-person dependencies.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience developing and customising ERPNext / Frappe, including time spent in a senior or lead role.
- Strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript, with deep knowledge of Frappe framework internals, ERPNext modules, workflows, and overall architecture.
- Proven ability to integrate ERPNext with external systems and APIs — specifically payment gateways like M-Pesa / Daraja, Microsoft 365 / Power Automate, and similar platforms.
- Solid understanding of MariaDB / MySQL, SQL, HTML, CSS, and REST APIs, with the ability to write efficient queries and debug performance issues.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-management capability, with a focus on mentoring engineers and fostering accountability.
- Excellent problem-solving, project-management, and communication skills, plus the ability to prioritise multiple parallel workstreams effectively.
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-entity operations, and familiarity with Agile methodologies, are advantageous.
