Role Overview
This banking operations role sits at the core of the bank’s transaction processing function, covering payments, trade finance, and Treasury Back Office (TBO) activities. Day to day, you will execute client instructions in the SWIFT and core banking systems, reconcile nostro accounts, confirm contract settlements, and ensure every transaction is captured accurately and in line with internal controls and regulatory requirements. Your work directly protects the bank from financial loss, supports revenue collection, and keeps the bank’s service commitments to clients on track.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payment, trade, and TBO transactions end-to-end in the SWIFT and core banking platforms, ensuring all entries are complete, accurate, and authorised.
- Verify that all applicable fees, commissions, and charges on each transaction are captured fully and promptly to support the bank’s revenue targets.
- Perform nostro account reconciliations, confirm contract settlements, and investigate any breaks or discrepancies to ensure receipts and payments align.
- Maintain opening and closing FX rates in the relevant systems in line with treasury instructions and internal policies.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports on schedule, ensuring full compliance with CBK guidelines, anti-money laundering rules, and US sanctions requirements.
- Safeguard title documents and other contractual records under dual control, following the bank’s custody protocols for payments and trade contracts.
- Respond to internal and external client queries, resolve issues within agreed turnaround times, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing while protecting the bank’s reputation.
- Coordinate with treasury, correspondent banking, finance, credit, and branch teams to ensure smooth execution of client instructions, and support the team leader in training backup staff for business continuity.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field from an accredited university.
- Working experience in banking operations, ideally with exposure to payments, trade finance, or treasury back-office processing.
- Mandatory professional qualification such as ACI Operations, CDCS, CSDG, or an equivalent specialist certification.
- Strong proficiency in MS Word and Excel, with the ability to handle data accurately and efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when capturing and processing transactions.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with good interpersonal abilities to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders.
- A proactive, self-driven approach with analytical problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
