Role Overview
This position sits at the intersection of corporate strategy, governance, and operational control. The Business & Strategy Coordinator helps business units convert the company’s strategic plan into concrete actions, then tracks how well those actions deliver against targets. In parallel, the role owns key coordination work across ESG disclosure, risk registers, regulatory compliance, ISO 9001:2015 quality management, internal audit follow-ups, and bid submission, giving leadership a clear view of performance, exposure, and obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide departmental leaders in turning the corporate strategy into practical team-level plans; monitor execution and report progress against KPIs and strategic milestones to the COO, management, and the Board through monthly, quarterly, and annual performance updates.
- Lead the preparation of annual ESG disclosures aligned with the Nairobi Securities Exchange ESG Reporting Manual and GRI standards, including collecting and consolidating environmental, social, and governance data from internal departments, and advising management on emerging ESG trends and sustainability adjustments.
- Maintain a comprehensive risk register across strategic, operational, financial, and compliance areas; coordinate risk assessments, analyze risk data, report to management and the Board, and work with departmental heads to embed mitigation actions and a risk-aware culture.
- Monitor compliance with regulator and statutory requirements, including those from the NSE, CMA, Ministry of Education, and KNLS, while keeping the corporate compliance register current, managing deadlines for licences and statutory returns, and coordinating responses to NSE requests.
- Drive the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System by keeping QMS documentation current, scheduling internal quality audits, tracking corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring the company remains ready for external certification and surveillance audits; compile quality insights for management reviews.
- Act as the central liaison between internal audit teams and business units, ensuring auditors receive timely documentation and responses, monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations, and providing the COO with clear status reports on outstanding issues and follow-up actions.
- Prepare and submit competitive bids and tenders targeting institutional clients such as KICD, Uganda’s MoES, NGOs, county governments, and corporate customers; support entity registration and provide operational and compliance-focused support to regional operations in Uganda and Cameroon.
- Coordinate the company’s continuing listing obligations, statutory filings, regulatory disclosures, and returns to the CMA and NSE while assessing new legislation and regulations to guide compliance controls; conduct periodic compliance reviews and deliver concise status reports on gaps, risks, and corrective measures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Quality Management, Finance, Law, or a comparable discipline; a professional qualification in Risk Management, Compliance, ESG, or ISO 9001:2015 is advantageous.
- At least five years of progressive experience spanning strategy implementation, compliance, risk management, ESG reporting, or a closely related function.
- Demonstrated strength in analytical thinking and reporting, with the practical ability to convert complex operational and regulatory data into actionable recommendations.
- Solid working knowledge of corporate governance principles, regulatory environments, compliance frameworks, and ESG disclosure standards.
- Hands-on familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System principles and internal audit processes.
- Proven experience orchestrating board-level and business-level reporting, plus strong project and organisational management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, supported by clear written and verbal communication.
