Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Department – Health Sciences, the Senior Lecturer will be responsible for:
- Teaching Pharmacology units allocated by the Head of Department.
- Designing, developing, planning, and delivering a range of programmes of study, sometimes for entirely new courses at various levels.
- Delivering high-quality lectures and practical sessions.
- Overseeing clinical practice, providing students with real-world learning experiences and guidelines in industry settings.
- Reviewing course content and materials on a regular basis, updating when required.
- Collaborating with academic colleagues on course development, curriculum changes, and the development of research activities.
- Carrying out research and writing research grant proposals.
- Seeking and participating in consultancies.
- Disseminating research findings at national or international conferences, scientific symposiums, and webinars.
- Providing mentorship and career guidance to students and staff.
- Ensuring all academic activities align with the standards of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
- Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a relevant PhD, master’s, and bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmacology, or a related field from an accredited University.
- At least three (3) years of teaching/research experience at the university level as a Lecturer/Research Fellow.
- Evidence of publications as a Lecturer/Research Fellow.
- Supervised at least two (2) postgraduate students to completion.
- Attracted research funds as a Lecturer/Research Fellow.
- Evidence of attending and contributing at academic conferences, seminars, or workshops.
- Demonstrates contribution to university life through active participation in departmental and school matters, meetings, students’ academic advising, and committee membership.
- Demonstrates potential for university teaching, research, and community extension.
- Has demonstrated a firm commitment to sustainability in previous roles.
- Valid Pharmacy and Poisons Board Practice Licence.
- Up-to-date with industry standards and has established linkages with the industry.
