Database Administrator

Smile Digital Health is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support the quality, performance, and security of data systems across its healthcare data platform. This remote role is responsible for enhancing database management practices, optimizing data operations, and providing technical guidance to development teams and clients.

The successful candidate will manage database environments, improve system performance, support data migrations, and implement best practices for database architecture and security. This position requires strong expertise in relational and non-relational databases, cloud database services, and advanced SQL optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform database capacity planning, installation, configuration, design, migration, monitoring, security, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery operations.

• Act as a subject matter expert for database management and provide technical guidance to internal and external teams.

• Support deployment, maintenance, and management of data systems for internal and client projects.

• Write and optimize SQL queries and review database schemas for improved performance.

• Implement and maintain database management systems and data maintenance processes.

• Plan and execute data migration strategies for complex systems with large datasets.

• Recommend improvements to enhance database performance and reliability.

• Collect, analyze, and present database performance metrics.

• Collaborate with development teams, managed services teams, partners, and customers on database solutions.

• Maintain accurate reporting of working hours and project activities through Netsuite.

• Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and confidentiality policies.

Requirements:

• Post-secondary Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• 5–10 years of experience in database administration, IT, database architecture, or related fields.

• Extensive experience with relational and non-relational databases including Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

• Experience with data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake or Redshift is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of SQL and database server tools.

• Advanced database tuning skills with the ability to analyze execution plans and optimize queries.

• Strong understanding of database security and performance monitoring standards.

• Knowledge of relational modeling, mathematics, and statistical concepts.

• Experience with programming languages and troubleshooting database connections.

• Minimum 3 years of experience with cloud database services such as AWS RDS or Azure PostgreSQL.

• Minimum 2 years of PostgreSQL maintenance experience including backup, restore, and multi-region replication.

• Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or OCI is preferred.

• Knowledge of queuing services such as Kafka, Event Hubs, or ActiveMQ is an advantage.

• Experience with Data Lakes or Big Data technologies is preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.

• Strong knowledge of:

    • Database administration, architecture, and performance optimization.

    • SQL development, query tuning, and data security.

    • Cloud database platforms and data management technologies.
