It is a Public University that focuses exclusively on Technology. It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college if Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), that was established in 2007. The University offers a wide range of programmes both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in various Schools and Institutes. These include:Computer Science and Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Health Science, Business Management and Economics, Geothermal Energy Technology, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Tourism and Hospitality and Technical and Professional Studies. The University also offers diploma and Certificate courses for mid-level technical skills. The programmes offered by the University are approved by the Senate and the various designated bodies like Engineers Board of Kenya (CBK) and Commission for University Education (CUE) that was established by the government of Kenya through the Commission for University Education Act, 2010. DeKUT recognises research as a pillar of both institutional and national development and its strategic focus is to provide technological education and create unique structures for research,innovations, extension and technology transfer. Thus, Research and Innovation, Linkages and Technology transfer are key result areas in the University’s Strategic plan for 2014-2019. DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of her Vision and Mission. The University has in place a magnificent Resource Centre,which is a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories and offices for both administrative and academic staff. In line with her vision of being a Premier Technological University excelling in Quality Education, Research and Technology transfer, DeKUT has put up expansive and well equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories. DeKUT intends to establish a Science and Technology Park as per the Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya, the second of the kind will be established at Konza City. Job Description

Role Overview

This is a full-time academic position within a growing university faculty, focused on delivering high-quality instruction and advancing research in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and data science. The successful candidate will shape curriculum, mentor postgraduate researchers, and contribute to the university’s standing as a centre of excellence in security-related disciplines. Day-to-day work involves preparing and delivering lectures, assessing student progress, supervising thesis projects, and actively publishing in refereed journals to support the department’s research output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and related data science topics.
  • Design, review, and update course materials and assessment frameworks to reflect current industry practices and emerging threats.
  • Supervise postgraduate students through their research, from topic selection to final thesis submission and examination.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research, producing publications in recognised refereed scholarly journals.
  • Participate in departmental committees, academic boards, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Contribute to community engagement and professional outreach activities related to digital security and forensic investigation.
  • Mentor junior faculty and assist in the development of research proposals and grant applications.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • An earned PhD in Data Science, Computer Security and Forensics, Digital Forensics, Cyber Security, or a closely related field from an accredited and recognised university.
  • At least three years of university-level teaching experience as a Lecturer, or six years of relevant research or industry experience in a related specialisation.
  • A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, with at least twenty-four (24) points drawn from articles published in refereed scholarly journals.
  • Evidence of having supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion, either as a Lecturer or in an equivalent academic role.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable.
