Role Overview
This is a field sales role focused on moving high-volume construction materials—primarily steel and cement—to contractors, developers, and hardware retailers across the region. You will also support the marketing of commercial mall spaces, meaning your day combines traditional building-material sales with light commercial leasing promotion. Your ability to build trust with buyers, negotiate aggressively, and manage a full pipeline will directly impact revenue targets and the company's market share in the local construction sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive revenue by selling cement, steel products, and complementary hardware lines to both walk-in customers and active field accounts.
- Work hand-in-hand with the internal marketing unit to promote mall facilities, retail spaces, and associated services to prospective tenants and partners.
- Prospect relentlessly for new business while maintaining and deepening relationships with an established client base in the construction trade.
- Hit and surpass monthly and yearly sales quotas through consistent pipeline activity and effective territory coverage.
- Carry out scheduled site visits, run client meetings, and present product specifications, pricing structures, and supply capabilities in a persuasive, professional manner.
- Draft precise quotations, bargain over terms, and drive contract closure without sacrificing margin targets.
- Liaise with transport and finance departments to schedule deliveries, clear documentation, and ensure payments are collected without unnecessary delays.
- Keep the sales database current, log every customer interaction, and generate performance reports using internal systems—proficiency with SAP is a strong plus.
- Keep a pulse on market movements, competitor pricing, supply shortages, and client feedback, then feed those insights back into sales strategy.
- Take ownership of receivables, chase overdue accounts, and flag credit risks before they become write-offs.
- Handle any additional duties assigned by management to support overall commercial objectives.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Three to four years of proven field sales experience specifically in construction materials such as steel, cement, or general hardware—experience with tiles, paints, or sanitary ware will not be considered equivalent.
- Deep familiarity with the steel and cement supply chain, including an existing network of contractors, distributors, and project owners in these sectors.
- A dynamic, energetic, and self-starting personality comfortable with daily field visits and independent territory management.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office for reporting, tracking, and customer presentations.
- Hands-on experience with SAP is a significant advantage, particularly for order processing, inventory visibility, and receivables management.
- Full professional fluency in both English and Kiswahili, written and spoken.
- Excellent negotiation skills, relationship-building aptitude, and disciplined lead pipeline management.
- A results-driven mindset with the ability to operate under high pressure, pursue aggressive sales objectives, and work with minimal supervision.
