Role Overview
Step into a fast-paced men's fashion retail environment in Mombasa, where your main focus will be guiding shoppers through the latest gents' collections and turning browsing into loyal, repeat business. Working directly in the store and reporting to the Store Manager, you will balance high-energy customer engagement with efficient sales-floor operations—from styling advice and product recommendations to till reconciliations and display upkeep. Your performance directly shapes the department's daily and monthly revenue, making you a key contributor to the store's overall success.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly as they enter the gents' department, quickly assessing their style preferences, size needs, and intended occasion to recommend fitting garments and accessories.
- Drive department sales through proactive upselling of complementary pieces—such as belts, shirts, or formal footwear—and by highlighting ongoing promotions that match each shopper's budget.
- Anticipate and answer detailed questions about fabric composition, garment care, measurement guides, pricing, and stock availability so customers leave with confidence in their purchase.
- Handle the full sales transaction using the company's POS/ERP software, verifying amounts, issuing receipts, and ensuring every payment is recorded accurately.
- Reconcile cash and payment records at the end of each shift, flagging any discrepancies, failed transactions, product returns, or exchange requests to the Store Manager without delay.
- Keep the gents' section floor-ready by arranging, tagging, and re-stocking merchandise according to the store's visual merchandising standards, and refreshing displays throughout the day.
- Monitor shelf and rack levels closely, reporting low-stock items, damaged goods, or incorrect pricing before they create a poor customer experience.
- Listen actively to customer concerns or complaints and resolve common issues professionally on the spot, ensuring shoppers leave with a positive impression of the brand.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Hold a certificate or diploma in Sales & Marketing, Business Administration, Retail Management, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate at least one year of hands-on sales experience, ideally within fashion retail, apparel, or a similarly customer-facing trade.
- Show working familiarity with POS or ERP systems—practical experience processing payments and handling end-of-day reports is a distinct advantage.
- Possess genuine selling instincts: the ability to persuade, negotiate, and present products clearly while staying driven to meet set sales targets.
- Exhibit excellent communication and active listening skills, enabling you to build rapport quickly with diverse customers and provide tailored recommendations.
- Maintain a polished personal appearance and organised work habits, thriving in a busy store with steady footfall and shifting priorities.
