Job Description

Role Overview

This position focuses on performing obstetric ultrasound scans for research participants to identify antenatal parameters and support the study's data collection goals. Day-to-day, you will conduct both clinical and non-clinical data gathering, ensure strict adherence to study protocols, and maintain ethical standards throughout all interactions. Your work directly contributes to screening, recruitment, and the smooth operation of a research study that relies on accurate imaging and careful equipment management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out obstetric ultrasound procedures on enrolled participants to detect and record antenatal measurements as defined by the study protocol.
  • Collect clinical and non-clinical data from study participants, accurately documenting all findings in the required formats.
  • Follow all provided guidelines and protocols, maintaining confidentiality and practising ethical research conduct at every step.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and achieve competency in informed consent, data collection, and other technical skills essential to the role.
  • Assist with screening and recruitment of eligible individuals into the study, explaining the research and obtaining consent where delegated.
  • Properly handle, store, and perform basic maintenance on study equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
  • Manage supplies and consumables needed for obstetric ultrasound services, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or their authorised representative.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Hold a Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences or Diagnostic Radiography from a recognised institution, plus a Higher Diploma in Sonography.
  • Be registered with the Kenya Radiation Protection Board and hold a valid licence to practice.
  • Alternative clinical qualifications may be considered if you can demonstrate substantive competence in obstetric ultrasound.
  • Possess at least one year of hands-on clinical experience providing obstetric ultrasound services, including pregnancy dating across various gestations, in a busy health facility.
  • Have experience working in public health care facilities.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with research activities at a health referral or primary health care level.
  • Exhibit basic computer literacy and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communicate effectively in both English and Kiswahili, verbally and in writing.
