It was started as Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (NEGST) in 1983 by the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA). The goal was to provide training for pastors beyond the basic certificate and diploma levels. This was informed by the envisioned crisis of 'Christo-paganism' in African Christianity without African Biblical theologians with advanced training to provide leadership in combating this trend. The objective was not simply for the enrichment of the scholar, but the ordinary believer in the church who was often poorly taught and vulnerable to a confused understanding of Christian truth. The establishment of Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology was seen as a viable instrument to that end. AIU was awarded a university charter by the government of Kenya in March 2011. It has since continued to develop undergraduate programs, particularly in Business, IT, Development Studies and Counselling Psychology. At Africa International University, we seek to be a learning community that practices loving God and neighbours with heart and mind. Our education perspective embraces disciplined, rigorous critical thinking and allows for the nurturing of relationships, creativity, and innovation. We are committed to offer education with a passion for God, God’s word and God’s world, passion for truth, integrity, service, and passion for excellence, justice, beauty, life, and creation. Education with passion seeks to have students explore their God-given abilities and inspire their personal growth and development. Critical to this pursuit is a core university teaching staff that strives to integrate the evangelical faith with their disciplines. Vision Christ-centred leaders in Africa educated to transform God’s people and the world. Mission To educate Christ-centred leaders for the transformation of God’s people and the world through innovative programmes, research, and community engagement. Core Value Excellence with Relevance-a solutions approach to learning Faith with Integrity-a discipleship and missional approach to theology and spirituality. Leadership with Servanthood and Stewardship-leadership that combines deep and personal humility and humanity with an unwavering commitment to do the will of God at all costs. Innovation with Community-not ministry or marketplace "soloists” but team-oriented leaders who seek creative and biblical solutions for the common good in their respective areas of calling. Job Description

Registrar, Administration & Finance

Role Overview

This is a senior leadership appointment that keeps a university's administrative and financial engine running while also shaping how the institution grows. Day to day, the Registrar for Administration and Finance moves between budget reviews, staffing decisions, campus service issues and strategic planning sessions, acting as a close operational partner to the Vice-Chancellor. The post exists to protect institutional resources, keep the university compliant and well governed, and turn long-range ambitions into workable plans, policies and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run campus administration end to end — facilities, security, transport, procurement coordination and general services — so that academic and operational activities have reliable support.
  • Write, roll out and refresh administrative policies, procedures and systems, reviewing them periodically for relevance and effectiveness.
  • Service institutional committees and statutory meetings, and keep official records and governance documentation accurate and accessible.
  • Own the financial control environment: prepare and monitor annual budgets and forecasts, produce timely management accounts and audited statements, file statutory returns, and manage relationships with auditors, banks, regulators and donors.
  • Lead the human resources function — workforce planning, hiring and onboarding, performance reviews and staff development — while ensuring terms of service, employee relations and HR policies comply with labour law.
  • Set strategic direction for institutional development: coordinate strategic planning and performance monitoring, drive resource mobilisation, and manage partnerships, grants and donor relations.
  • Oversee university marketing, branding and public image so the institution maintains a strong reputation with stakeholders and partners, and support accreditation and quality assurance work.
  • Serve on the senior management team, advise the Vice-Chancellor and governing bodies, embed risk management and internal controls across supervised functions, and foster collaboration between departments. Other duties may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Master's degree from a recognised university in Administration and Management, Finance, Accounting, Human Resource Management, Public Administration or a closely related discipline.
  • At least seven years of leadership and management experience, with a track record of overseeing finance, administration, institutional development and human resources at a senior level.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CHRP or an equivalent credential is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated competence in institutional management and/or education administration, including familiarity with strategic planning for education development.
  • Strong financial and analytical ability, with hands-on experience in budgeting, internal controls and financial reporting.
  • Working knowledge of HR practice, labour laws, and national laws and policies governing education.
  • Confident written and spoken communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, plus proficiency with relevant computer software.
  • High integrity and ethical judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • A self-motivated, positive approach and the organisational and interpersonal skills to work well in a team serving culturally diverse populations.
  • Alignment with the institution's faith-based identity as a born-again Christian.
