Role Overview
You will take full ownership of regional commercial results, steering both revenue growth and operational discipline across a network of branches and field teams. Day to day, this means translating company strategy into concrete sales actions, coaching supervisors to execute consistently, and acting quickly when performance, stock, or customer issues threaten targets. Your ability to blend data-driven decision making with visible presence in the market will directly determine how well the region scales and serves its customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the region’s top-line performance by setting ambitious yet realistic sales targets, tracking progress against them, and deploying corrective action plans the moment gaps appear.
- Build and execute regional growth plans that expand existing customer accounts, open new channels, and capture under-served market segments across all branches.
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable a team of supervisors and sales representatives, ensuring each person knows their targets, has a clear route to achieve them, and receives regular, honest feedback.
- Coordinate closely with supply chain and operations teams to keep branches fully stocked, reduce stock-outs and spoilage, and resolve replenishment issues before they hit customer service levels.
- Review sales and operational data weekly to diagnose root causes of underperformance—whether pricing, merchandising, route coverage, or team capability—and turn those insights into practical interventions.
- Act as the commercial voice in cross-functional meetings, raising risks and aligning commercial, finance, logistics, and category teams around shared priorities.
- Spend significant time visiting branches and accompanying field sales staff to observe real customer interactions, understand competitive dynamics, and ensure operating standards are consistently met.
- Build enduring relationships with key retailers, distributors, and institutional buyers, using their feedback to shape local pricing, promotions, and service improvements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Agribusiness, or a related field; an MBA or advanced qualification is a plus.
- At least seven years of progressive sales experience, ideally in FMCG, agribusiness, food distribution, or a related fast-moving industry.
- Proven track record of leading multiple sales teams or supervisors and delivering against demanding revenue targets.
- Hands-on experience managing several branches, territories, or distribution channels simultaneously, with an understanding of field sales operations.
- Strong analytical ability to use sales data, inventory reports, and KPIs to identify performance issues and drive decisive action.
- Demonstrated skill in working across functions—supply chain, finance, marketing, operations—in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- High personal resilience, comfort with travel and field work, and a reputation for integrity and sound judgment under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to influence both frontline teams and senior management.
