Role Overview
The Programme Manager will lead the planning and delivery of a conservation education programme, overseeing its budget, field operations, school partnerships and measurement of results. This senior role combines strategic programme development with regular engagement in schools and field labs, helping children and educators build knowledge of wildlife conservation while giving the organisation clear evidence of its impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Set annual programme priorities and translate them into workable budgets, schedules and delivery plans.
- Manage and support education, field lab and administrative staff, along with consultants and interns; build a team culture of accountability, learning and well-being.
- Grow relationships with partner schools and patron teachers, including coordinating teacher training and approaches to sustaining their engagement.
- Lead efforts to secure programme funding by identifying prospective donors and preparing grant proposals and other fundraising materials.
- Oversee grant compliance and prepare timely quarterly and annual reports that communicate progress and results to funders.
- Develop monitoring, evaluation and learning practices using logframes, a Theory of Change, data collection and visual reporting tools; use findings to improve programme delivery.
- Guide the design and quality review of species-focused learning materials, ensuring they suit school curricula, local contexts and young learners.
- Maintain appropriate child safeguarding and field risk procedures, and represent the programme at donor meetings, conservation events and education forums.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least five years of programme management experience, with responsibility for projects from planning through delivery and evaluation.
- Relevant experience in education, wildlife conservation, environmental advocacy, youth development or a related NGO setting.
- Practical knowledge of monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks, including logframes and Theory of Change models.
- Confidence using Google Workspace and Google Sheets; experience with Looker Studio or comparable data visualisation tools is relevant.
- Proven ability to prepare donor proposals and grant reports and to manage relationships with partners and funders.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce persuasive proposals, clear impact reports, school communications and advocacy briefs.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary or geographically distributed teams; familiarity with volunteer or teacher networks is an advantage.
- Commitment to wildlife conservation, environmental protection and community empowerment, with the ability to balance strategic leadership and hands-on school visits.
What We Offer / Why Join
This full-time, on-site role is based in Nairobi and includes regular visits to partner schools and regional field labs. The stated monthly salary range is KSh 200,000–250,000. The Programme Manager reports to the Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer.
