Role Overview
Based in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, this full-time Accountant role manages the company’s day-to-day records, statutory tax processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Working with the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will help keep the renewable energy business’s accounts accurate and compliant while providing timely figures for operational and financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and maintain transactions for purchases, sales, petty cash, and operating expenses, keeping general ledger entries accurate and up to date.
- Manage supplier and customer account records, monitor overdue balances, and follow up on payments to support cash flow.
- Process sales invoices through eTIMS, validate buyer tax PINs, and handle routine tax administration on KRA iTax.
- Prepare and submit monthly statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, NSSF, SHIF, and Housing Levy.
- Reconcile bank accounts, supplier statements, customer balances, and general ledger accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Support monthly close and year-end reporting, including accruals, management accounts, cash flow schedules, expense summaries, budgets, and variance analysis.
- Maintain organised digital and physical accounting records and provide schedules, transaction samples, and ledger reports for audits.
- Review purchasing and invoicing controls, identify weaknesses, and recommend practical improvements to accounting processes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least three years of practical accounting experience, preferably in an SME or in renewable energy, engineering, construction, or technical services.
- A diploma or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Hands-on proficiency with KRA iTax and eTIMS, including familiarity with Kenyan tax compliance requirements and filing deadlines.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage, together with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- CPA-K qualification or progress through CPA sections is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills for reconciling accounts, tracing variances, and correcting errors.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with suppliers, customers, colleagues, and auditors.
